A widow (female-identifying) or widower (male-identifying) is someone whose spouse or long-term partner has died. This status acknowledges the emotional weight and lasting impact of a deep relationship that ended due to loss, not choice. Some people use “widow” or “widower” to honor a past partner, especially if the connection was romantic, sexual, D/s-based, or life-defining. It may also signal that someone is grieving or healing, while also open to new connections at their own pace.
