Rumpus Room

In the context of kink, the term rumpus room is often used for a specific room or space set aside for especially disruptive and/or messy play at a party or event. This provides space for that sort of play without having to spend extra time on cleanup, or having to move and/or disrupt too many other scenes for space. Most commonly, this is space set aside for such things as blood play, wet and messy play, including splosh, and other types of play that require extra cleanup. A rumpus room may also be used when a larger space is needed for things like whips or takedown play. Rumpus rooms may be equipped with drop cloths for any furniture, plastic on the walls and/or floor which can be easily replaced, and easily wiped-down surfaces. In most cases, players are expected to clean up after themselves, but this will depend on the event. If an event has a rumpus room, make sure you understand the rules involved before going in. ### Synonym Rooms like this are sometimes called a "Dexter room" for the tv show Dexter about a blood spatter analyst and serial killer. ### Origins of the Term Historically, the term rumpus room was used to refer to a room in the house that is generally used for entertainment, recreation, and the like. The term comes from the word "rumpus," which means "uproar" or "disturbance."
