Aegoromantic

Aegoromantic is a romantic orientation used to describe people who enjoy the concept of romance but do not have a desire to participate in romantic activities. Aegoromantic individuals may have romantic fantasies, enjoy romantic media, or engage in "shipping" in fandoms, but they tend to feel little to no romantic attraction in real life and typically do not desire a romantic relationship ### Origins of the Term The origins of this term are not entirely clear. Some people believe the term "aego" comes from the Latin ego "self" with the prefix a- meaning "without". Others say there is a deeper, community-rooted origin to this term, and that it was developed in online ace/aro communities (mainly on AVEN and Tumblr) as a shorthand for autochorissexuality. This long and clunky term was coined by psychologist Anthony Bogaert, combining Greek auto (“self”) with "choris" (“separate”), to mean “sexuality without identity.” Over time, communities seeking a less clinical or pathologizing label began using aegosexual (and by extension, aegoromantic) as shorthand or “reclaimed” versions of autochorissexual.
