Urolagnia

Urolagnia, sometimes called urophilia, is a fetish involving urine. People with this kink may be into the sight, sound, smell, taste, or sensation of urination. This can include watching someone urinate, being urinated on, urinating on a partner, or incorporating urine into sexual play. A survey of 245 male sadomasochists found that 10% of them had an interest in urolagnia. Other surveys have similarly found the rate of interest in urolagnia among sadomasochists to be about 8-10%. ### Origins of the Term The term urolagnia comes from Greek roots, where "uro" means "urine" and "lagnia" means "lust" or "sexual desire." The term appears in early sexual writings, especially those of Havelock Ellis, an early 20th century intellectual who studied sexuality, and was a pioneering figure in sexology. He published multiple influential works, most notably the multi-volume Studies in the Psychology of Sex (1897–1928), which examined sexual behavior, sexual orientation, and various paraphilias, including urolagnia. (He also reportedly had "a delight in seeing women urinate.") ### Why People Are Into It People can be into urolagnia for an number of different reasons. Here are a few of the most common ones. Note that many people like it for more than one reason! ### Sensation People might be into the warmth and wetness, bladder pressure, or feeling of release and relief that comes with wetting themselves. ### Taboo Urination (at least on yourself or others) is often considered taboo, "dirty," or socially unacceptable. Some people like the thrill of feeling like they are doing something "wrong." ### Control or Humiliation In Dominant/submissive play, urination can be used as a form of control, degradation, or humiliation. The giver may feel dominance and ownership, while the receiver might feel degraded, humiliated, or just the sense that they have surrendered. ### Childhood Associations Some people may have had childhood experiences that linked urination with care, punishment, embarrassment, or arousal. Plus, because the bladder is in close proximity to sexual nerves, forced holding in childhood can create sexual associations. ### Diapers For people with a diaper fetish, urolagnia can be a way to enjoy the use and wearing of diapers. ### Ways to Play Urolagnia can be enjoyed in various ways: - Urinating on someone (which is called a golden shower). - Sniffing the smell of urine one someone's wet clothes. - Wetting one's clothing (omorashi). - Urinating in a diaper. - Drinking someone's urine or watching someone drink your urine (urophagia). Some practices can involve elements of domination or humiliation. For example, a pet Owner might demand that their pet urinate in a certain place. Or, a Dominant might urinate on their submissive partner to assert dominance and/or ownership. ### Safety & Consent As with any kind of fluids, urine can transmit some STIs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis, herpes, and HIV. Risk assessment and STI prevention strategies can be discussed between partners.
