Transine

Transine is a relatively obscure term for transgender or non-binary people who do not want to go through medical transition (such as hormones or surgeries). For example, a transgender man might choose not to take testosterone or have top or bottom surgery, but still present socially as a man and take part in masculine-coded activities. This term matters because people who don’t medically transition are often told they’re “not really trans” or that they’re “faking it.” In reality, gender identity does not have to match a person’s body or involve medical steps. Not every non-cisgender person experiences body dysphoria, and those who do may not feel it about their chest or genitals. Plus, many barriers to transition exist, including cost, the risk of medical complications, lack of providers, and other factors. ### Origins of the Term The term combines the Latin "trans," which means “across," "beyond," or "on the other side of” with "sine," which means "without."
