Sapiosexual

Sapiosexual (also known as sapiophile) usually refers to a person who is sexually attracted to a person's intelligence over their appearance or body. The attraction is based on the subject's capacity for, and exemplification of knowledge (e.g., academic intellect, facts, wisdom). - Sapiosensual: Attraction to the mind expressed in sensual, intimate, or affectionate ways that do not necessarily involve sex. This is particularly valued within the asexual and gray-asexual communities, where the longing for closeness is profound but not inherently sexual. - Noetisexual: A closely related identity, rooted in the Greek noesis (intellect or insight), highlighting attraction to the overall mental makeup of a person, including opinions, point of view, perception of reality, creativity, humor, and emotional intelligence. - Blended or Flexible Models: Others find their sapio attraction can flow across contexts: sometimes purely platonic or sensual, sometimes erotic, sometimes both, depending on the person and situation. Sapio-oriented attraction can be found in monogamous, non-monogamous, and multi-partner relationships. ### Origins of the Term "Sapio" (from the Latin verb sapere) means "I have sense," "I taste," "I understand," or "I am wise," serving as the root for English words like "sapient" (wise) and "sapiosexual" (attracted to intelligence), and is famously part of Homo sapiens ("wise man"). It signifies wisdom, discernment, and knowledge, connecting the physical act of tasting with mental understanding. "Noeti" "Noetic" (from Greek noētikos) relates to the mind, intellect, and thought, stemming from the Greek words noein (to think) and nous (mind). It signifies intellectual perception, inner wisdom, direct knowing, or intuitive understanding and is seen in a related sexuality known as noetisexual. ### Reception There are contrasting views on the subject of sapiosexuality. Some folks use this term to represent a preference as ideas about intellect or other mental qualities can be vague or subjective. Some people may also perceive sapiosexuality as having innate class/socioeconomic prejudice, or as being ableist.
