Gorean

A Gorean is someone who participates in lifestyle dynamics inspired by the Gor book series by John Norman. For many Goreans, these dynamics go beyond kink, and many Goreans are not into, or do not consider themselves into, BDSM. These dynamics often involve strict and total power exchange, where a Free Person (usually referred to as Master or Mistress) holds total control over a slave (referred to in the Gorean language as kajira, or kajirus). ### Gorean Roles and Hierarchy Gorean roles typically follow rigid, traditional gender roles and emphasize obedience, ritual, and a hierarchical structure. Within modern culture, they are often seen as mysogynistic and patriarchal; within the books, women are usually and frequently depicted as desiring and needing the position of slavery as their true place. Most slaves are women. While not all who engage in Gorean play agree with or fully replicate the books’ ideology, many draw from its themes for consensual, structured dynamics of complete power exchange. It is important to note that while the relationships in the books are not consensual and based entirely upon caste and capture, in the real world of Earth, Gorean philosophy and relationships are based entirely on the consensual relationship between those involved, including the slaves, even though most Gorean slaves consensually give complete power exchange to their owners. ### Resources For more information on the world of Gor, as taken from the books, Luther's Educational Scrolls (offsite) is a very complete place to look. Note that not every real life Gorean follows the scrolls to the smallest degree, but many take strong aspects from them, in particular the high protocol behavior of slaves and interplay between Free People castes, but also in smaller details, such as inventing or duplicating recipes and games from the books.
