Androgyne

Androgyne refers to a non-binary gender identity that relates to androgyny, blending aspects of both male and female identities together (not necessarily in equal parts), or falling somewhere between the two. It has also been used to describe being an ambiguous gender, neither male nor female. The concept of androgyny can be felt internally/psychologically (identifying as an androgyne mentally and emotionally) or observed/expressed externally (presenting as an androgynous-person, i.e. anatomy, fashion, mannerisms, and roles). It is important to note that people who identify as androgyne may not appear androgynous, and people who appear androgynous may not identify as androgyne. ### Origins of the Term Androgyne The Greek root words are "andro' meaning man and "gyne" meaning woman. The terms "androgynous" and "androgyne" are often confused, but they are different. - "Androgyne/androgyn" is analogous to male/man or female/woman - "Androgynous" is analogous to masculine or feminine - "Androgyny" is analogous to masculinity or femininity
